In his study, which is prefaced by Yannis Dallas, the author deals with the theme of Christmas in the poetry of Miltos Sachtouris.
The study establishes, first of all, that Christmas, and everything associated with this holiday, in Sachtouris' poetry do not appear as the well-known religious, social and personal celebration of joy, but are transformed into a celebration of death, when the historical situation is one of horror and death for man and the society in which he lives.
Based on this observation, the author then traces the specific causes of this transformation of Christmas in Sachtouris' poetry, its extent as well as its intensity and depth.
Finally, he himself examines Sachtouris's proposal for overcoming this dominance of terror, despair and death on a historical, social and religious level: this overcoming of terror and death lies, according to Sachtouris's view of poetry, in the redemptive mediation of art, poetry, and the creator-poet himself.
